Garland Bateman

[December 31, 2007]  Garland Wayne Bateman, 69, of Lincoln died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at 1:15 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Bill Shanle officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, rural Mount Pulaski.

Mr. Bateman retired from Logan FS in Lincoln.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam era.

He was born Jan 1, 1938, at Chestnut to Francis Luke and Evelyn Donnan Bateman.

He is survived by his mother, of Lincoln; two sons, Kevin (and Peggy) Bateman of Lincoln and Bryan (and Melissa) Bateman of Springfield; one brother, Leland Bateman of Springfield; one sister, Phyllis Blaum of Mount Pulaski; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a member of American Legion Post 263.

He was in the marching band during basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 263 or a charity of the donor's choice.
