Notes: The Red Sox placed RHP David Aardsma on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right groin and recalled RHP Justin Masterson from Triple-A Pawtucket to replace him in the bullpen. ... Angels manager Mike Scioscia said the team was discussing its options for OF Gary Matthews Jr., who has a small tear in the patella tendon of his left knee. Matthews, hitting .235 with seven homers and 34 RBIs in 89 games, learned the extent of his injury Saturday. He has started only one of the last eight games and is 5-for-36 with one RBI since June 27. ... Boston's Dustin Pedroia, who had a double and two singles, has hit safely in 22 of his last 23 games. ... Scioscia was dismayed to learn the Spectrum in Philadelphia will be demolished next year. Scioscia, who grew up in the Philadelphia area as a hard-core Flyers fan, said with a smile that he would chain himself to the arena to keep it from being torn down. ... All three games of the series were sellouts, giving the Angels 16 this season. The series drew 132,429 fans.
