[July 24, 2008]  PHOENIX (AP) -- Reed Johnson had three hits, including a grand slam in the eighth, and the Chicago Cubs routed the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-6 on Wednesday night.

Ted Lilly (10-6) drove in the tying run and threw six uneven innings to help Chicago get its second win in six games since the All-Star break and remain one game in front of Milwaukee in the NL Central.

RestaurantThe Cubs opened a tight game with a six-run eighth after scoring a total of two runs while losing the first two games of the series.

Derrek Lee gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead with his 16th homer with two outs in the first. Tony Clark, acquired by the Diamondbacks last week, hit a two-run homer in the fourth,

Lilly, who came into the game hitting .189, tied the game with a run-scoring single during a three-run fifth that gave the Cubs a 4-2 lead. Newly activated Alfonso Soriano and Ryan Theriot drove in runs with run-scoring groundouts.

Arizona cut the lead to 4-3 on Conor Jackson's run-scoring triple in the fifth, one of his three hits. Mark DeRosa and Johnson started the inning with a single and double, respectively.

Chris Young had three doubles for Arizona.

Doug Davis (3-4) scattered five hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Lilly threw 115 pitches over six innings, the most he's thrown in a game this season, allowing six hits while striking out six and walking three.

Aramis Ramirez ended an 0-for-26 slump with a single in the eighth when Chicago scored twice off Micah Owings, who was lifted after surrendering a bases loaded walk to DeRosa. Johnson followed with his fourth homer, a shot off Leo Rosales that made it 10-3.

Chris Snyder hit a three-run homer in the eighth for Arizona, which remained one game in front of Los Angeles in the NL West.

The Cubs activated Soriano before the game, batting him leadoff. Soriano, elected to the All-Star game seven straight years, has been out since being hit on the hand and fracturing a finger June 11, against Atlanta. He went 1-for-5, doubling after the Cubs had scored six runs in the eighth.

Notes: Diamondbacks 2B Orlando Hudson was not in the lineup Wednesday after getting hit on the ankle Tuesday night by Kevin Hart in the eighth. X-rays did not show a break. Hart was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday as part of the Cubs moves to activate Soriano. ... Lilly became the third Chicago pitcher to get into double digits in wins, the only team in the majors with three 10-game winners. He is 2-2 lifetime against Arizona, both coming this season.
