Wendell 'Barney' Diez

[June 02, 2008]  MOUNT PULASKI -- Wendell W. "Barney" Diez, 89, of Mount Pulaski died Friday, May 30, 2008, at 12:46 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with Bill Shanle in charge. Military rites will be conducted.

There is no visitation.

Mr. Diez was a retired farmer.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was born Dec. 4, 1918, at Lake Fork to Joseph H. Diez and Mary Ann Huffman.

He is survived by one daughter, Wendy Sutheard of Springfield, and one granddaughter, Barbara Sutheard of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

He was a member of Mount Pulaski American Legion Post 447.
