Donald Adcock

[June 02, 2008]  ATLANTA -- Donald L. Adcock, 71, of Atlanta, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 31, 2008, after a brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Rob Roy officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Atlanta Cemetery.

Mr. Adcock was employed for 33 years at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and was a co-owner of Phanny's Bar in Atlanta. He moved from Hot Springs, Ark., to Bloomington in 1959 and then to Atlanta in 1969.

He served for two years in the U.S. States Air Force, seeing duty in Japan.

He was born Feb. 4, 1937, in Nashville, Ark., to Hubert and Venita Sifford Adcock. He married Gail Cryer on Oct. 15, 1961, at the McLean Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years; one son, Donny (and Karen) Adcock Jr.; four daughters, Pam (and John) O'Connor, Karen (and Jim) Wrenn, Lori Adcock and Peggy (and Brad) Madigan; 14 grandchildren, Nick Adcock, Kelsey, Katy, Ryan and Matt O'Connor, Kristina, Patrick and Nick Wrenn, Melissa, Kaley, Maegan and Chase Brown, and Shelby and Mason Madigan; three great-grandchildren, Hailey and Gage Ivey and Avery McIntosh; and two sisters, Wanda (and Harold) Wallace and Shirley Overton.

Funeral Director

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, NASCAR and the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a lifelong golfer.

Don's sense of humor and quick wit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed.
