[June 04, 2008]  A long, terrible wait is over for the family and friends of a Lincoln youth who went missing on May 13. Eighteen-year-old Billy Ray Eskew was on an overnight fishing trip and camped along Salt Creek between Madigan State Park and the Lincoln Sportsmen's Club. Reportedly, when a friend woke at 7 a.m., Eskew was there. When the group woke at 10 a.m. he was not there.

DonutsLocal emergency response agencies, law enforcement and fire departments provided mutual aid along with state assistance in an extensive search of the area grounds and water for two weeks.

On May 26, authorities recovered the body of a white male from the water downstream from where Eskew was last seen. The body was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, where an autopsy was to be performed by Dr. Jessica Bowman and DNA testing would be done to confirm the ID.

Logan County Coroner Robert Thomas confirmed today that the body that was found is that of Eskew.

Thomas said that an inquest could not be scheduled yet, as the results of the autopsy may not be back for up to four weeks.
