[June 11, 2008]  CHICAGO (AP) -- A jury has convicted a man of trying to rob former presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun of Illinois.

Spokeswoman Tandra Simonton of the Cook County prosecutor's office says jurors found Joseph Dixon guilty Tuesday of attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery.

Dixon faces between six and 30 years in prison when he's sentenced July 11.

Braun was attacked as she entered her Hyde Park home in April 2007. She broke her wrist.

Braun identified Dixon as her attacker during the trial. She said he slashed at her with a knife as she pulled away and screamed.

Dixon's public defender, Sandra Parris, has questioned whether Braun saw his face clearly.

Braun served one term in the Senate after her election in 1992.
