In the Northeast, the Ohio Valley was to see showers and storms. The skies were to be clear over New England, and temperatures were to be warmer.
In the Southeast, afternoon thunderstorms were predicted, with temperatures climbing well into the 90s.
The Northwest was to be mostly dry and warm. There was a possibility of clouds in Northern Washington, however, and Montana and Wyoming were to get clouds and a few showers Friday morning. Temperatures were to be in the 60s and 70s across the Northeast.
In the Southwest, hot and dry conditions were expected to prevail. California was to heat up to the high 80s and 90s. Temperatures were to be in the 80s and 90s across most of the region, with a few 100s in the desert areas.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 17 degrees at Berthoud Pass, Colo., to a high of 107 degrees at Wink, Texas.
