The Central and Southern Plains were to see showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be severe. Hail, strong winds and possibly tornadoes were expected.
Clouds and possibly showers and storms were expected in the Northeast. Temperatures were to range from the 70s in New England to 80s and 90s in the Mid-Atlantic.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms were expected in the Southeast. Heavy rain, hail and high winds were all forecast. Temperatures were to be in the 90s, possibly reaching 100.
Sunny skies and warm temperatures were predicted over the Northwest. Inland temperatures were to reach the high 80s, rising into the 90s for the weekend.
The Southwest was to remain mostly dry and hot. Temperatures were to be in the 90s and 100s, with desert regions reaching 110. Dry thunderstorms were possible, with most of the rain evaporating before it hits the ground.
California was to continue to see smoky and hazy conditions due to numerous wildfires burning throughout the state.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Thursday ranged from a low of 33 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif., to a high of 105 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
