Alene
Petersen, 87, of Lincoln, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at The
Christian Village with her family by her side.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Holland
Barry and Bennett Funeral Home, with Terry Davis officiating. Her
funeral will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. |
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Petersen was employed by Spurgeon's
department store for more than 20 years.
She was born Aug. 26, 1920, in Paducah, Texas, to
Walter T. and Mary Essie Lee Teel. She married Lloyd
Petersen on July 15, 1945, in Paducah, Texas. He
preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1984.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverley J. (and
Robert C.) Kurka of Lincoln; three granddaughters,
Holly M. (and Randal) Zehr of Bloomington, Lara M.
(and Josh) O'Donoghue of Lincoln and Amber J. (and
Michael) Hazel of Lincoln; seven
great-grandchildren, Christopher Hazel, Larissa
O'Donoghue, Zackary Hazel, Emma O'Donoghue, Asher
Hazel, Wyatt O'Donoghue and Jaron Zehr; two
brothers, W.C. (and Kathy) Teel and Bill (and Mary)
Teel; one sister, Betty (and Bud) Gibbs; a
sister-in-law, Luella (and Bud) Thatcher; and many
nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister,
Lovonia.
Mrs. Petersen was a member of Lincoln Christian
Church and frequently attended Sunday services at
The Christian Village. She taught Sunday school for
several years and always took great pride in leading
little children to the Lord. |
She enjoyed needlework and was very fond of birds.
Her parakeet, JoJo, will miss her very much.
She was a loving and gentle woman who enjoyed the
company of her family, especially the little
children.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to The
Christian Village or the Children of Pokot Education
Fund.
