Lincoln Church of God celebrates 55 years
[May 12, 2008] May 17 and 18 the Lincoln Church of God will celebrate 55 years of ministry. In May 1953, the Rev. A.E. Austin led a tent revival in Lincoln, and the local Church of God began as a result.
The 55th anniversary homecoming theme will be "Celebrating Our Pentecostal Heritage."
The Lincoln church is part of the Church of God, based in Cleveland, Tenn., which is one of the oldest Pentecostal denominations in America and currently has over 6 million members in 150 countries.
The special activities planned for the weekend include a women's tea on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Rec Center Railer Room. Frankie Powers, former pastor’s wife, will be the guest speaker. The cost is $3 per person to attend. If interested, contact the church office.
Also on Saturday, at
7 p.m., there will be a gospel sing in the church sanctuary,
featuring contemporary gospel group River's Edge. Refreshments will
be served in the fellowship hall immediately following.
On Sunday there will
be a special worship service at 10 a.m. Several former pastors will
be attending; there will be a special video presentation of the last
55 years; and the Rev. Byron Powers, pastor from 1984-1986, will be
ministering.
Finally, at 1 p.m. on Sunday there will be a fellowship dinner in the ballroom at the Rec Center.
