County briefs: New prescription drug program coming to Logan County

[May 21, 2008]  A prescription drug program that helps qualifying low-income people who are not covered by private insurance or public aid will soon become available. The Sangamon Department of Public Health administers the program, Sangamo Scripts, which will soon be offered through the Logan County Health Department to all Logan County residents 18 years of age and older. Sangamo Scripts offers up to 25 percent savings on prescription drugs at participating pharmacies.

Mark Hilliard, Logan County Health Department administrator, was very excited last month when this opportunity was presented. It passed the Logan County Board of Health in April and came before the Logan County Board for final acceptance by resolution Tuesday evening. Chamber liaison Bill Sahs said that the chamber has found a lady for the executive director position. She has to take the test that is required first. They should have an announcement within a couple of weeks.

Sahs reminded everyone that Logan County's second annual Route 66 garage sale, "37 miles of smiles," takes place on June 13 and 14.

JoAnne Marlin said she would be on the courthouse grounds during the garage sale, selling Logan County Courthouse souvenirs. There will be replicas of the courthouse, artistic drawings and paintings of the courthouse, lapel pins, and booklets that celebrate the history of the 100-year-old Logan County Courthouse.

Sahs said that Airport Daze, which was on May 4, was a huge success. Heritage In Flight took a little time and honored veterans, and they had a lot of planes flying in. It was a nice event. An estimated few hundred people came out.

County Clerk Sally Litterly said that five Lincoln Christian College students came into her office to do a study on the Family Medical Leave Act. They did an excellent job, as good as a professional, she said. They made brochures that are available in her office and an excellent resource.

The next public transportation meeting will take place on May 28 at 10 a.m. at the American Legion in Mason City. The focus of this meeting will be on transportation providers and needs. (Public transportation effort still on track)

Logan County officials from municipalities and the county will meet with state agencies at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Logan County Courthouse to discuss infrastructure needs and possible funding.
