Marion Jacobson is a former teacher and guidance counselor in the Wausau School District, and her love of reaching out to kids has never waned. That's part of the reason she wrote "Paddy, the Lonesome Turtle," a 23-page story about a turtle with no friends.
"He asks people along the road to be his friend, but they all have an excuse why they can't," Jacobson said. "Paddy keeps trying and finally finds a whole family of friends. It's a cute story for kids."
The story, recently published by Vantage Press in New York, is her second book. Last year she wrote "Why the Giraffe Has a Long Neck,"
Jacobson doesn't have any kids, but she plans to share her new book with her many nieces and grandnieces.
"This story brings out the fact that we're all different," Jacobson said,
After writing two books in her mid-90s, is a third one in the works?
"At my age?" Jacobson said, with a look of shock and a giggle. "I think I've done well enough."
