Jurors to get Sen. Stevens corruption case today

[October 22, 2008]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jury deliberations should begin today in the corruption trial for veteran Sen. Ted Stevens.

The 84-year-old Stevens has said that he wants a verdict by Election Day, and it now seems more likely that he will get it. The veteran Republican is charged with lying on Senate financial disclosure forms about $250,000 in home renovations and other gifts he received from his friend, millionaire oil contractor Bill Allen. The jury gets the case Wednesday.

If Stevens has his way, he'll soon return home to Alaska vindicated, with the weight of a two-year FBI investigation finally lifted.
