Wilbur 'Geno' Nelson

[September 05, 2008]  MIDDLETOWN -- Wilbur Eugene "Geno" Nelson, 71, of Middletown, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, in Wayne, Mo., with his family.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Irish Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Nelson was employed by Croft Fertilizer in New Holland-Middletown for 20 years.

He proudly served his country in the United States military.

He was born Oct. 14, 1936, in Middletown to Charles and Sarah Creason Nelson.

He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Green (and Jimmie) of Patterson, Mo., Rhonda Nelson of Patterson, Mo., and Debbie Nelson of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers, Charles Nelson of Springfield and Wayne Nelson of Mason City; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers David, Benjamin and James.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lincoln for many years.

Geno was an all-around fun guy. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially of Jeff Gordon, and was very fond of the New York Mets.

He was a loving daddy, grandpa and friend. He will be missed by all who shared in the good times with him.

Memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
