In a thankful vein, the mayor
and city council members acknowledged retired Ward 1 Alderman Benny
Huskins for his service to the council and the community. Huskins, a
four-term alderman, wanted to thank the people of Ward 1 and the
three mayors he served with: Mayor John Guzzardo, Mayor Joan Ritter
and Mayor Beth Davis.

State VFW Commander Vince Long was recognized for his outstanding
achievements in promoting and working for the rights of Illinois
veterans. Mayor Davis-Kavelman read a proclamation stating Sept. 15
as Vince Long Day in the city of Lincoln. Long says he has already
traveled over 8,000 miles in his capacity as state commander. City
treasurer Les Plotner told the council he had received a check from
an individual to go toward the cost of a new website for the city.
The mayor said they already were diligently working on a new site.
She acknowledged that there had been letters to the editor
suggesting a better, more advanced website would be beneficial to
the community, with the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial approaching.
Alderwoman Wanda Rohlfs stated that the city was handling this
in-house. It was recommended that the treasurer return the check to
the individual.
