[February 17, 2009]  FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- The Boston Red Sox have agreed to a minor league contract with outfielder-first baseman Brad Wilkerson.

The eight-year veteran with four other teams is in Boston's major league camp after agreeing to the deal with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Wilkerson hit .220 with four homers and 28 RBIs in 104 games last year with Seattle and Toronto.

The lefty batter began his major league career in 2001 with Montreal and hit 32 homers in 2004. Wilkerson could play a role with Boston early in the season while first baseman-outfielder Mark Kotsay recovers from back surgery that is expected to keep him out at least until May.
