Vernon Bryant

[February 28, 2009]  Vernon Richard Bryant, 79, of Lincoln, died Feb. 12, 2009, at home with his family.

Memorial services will be scheduled later.

Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mr. Bryant was a self-employed carpet installer for 40 years. He retired from Pillsbury Mills in Springfield after 25 years of service.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.

He was born Aug. 18, 1929, in Whitley City, Ky., to Kenchelo and Nettie Anne Denny Bryant.

He is survived by two daughters, Pamela (and husband Paul) Martinie of Middletown and Twyla Damarin of Lincoln; one son, Carvin Bryant; one sister, Lora Mae (and Robert) Kirby of Arizona; one brother, Carvin Bryant of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Virgil Bryant; and one grandson, Timothy Jason.

Funeral Directors

He was a member of Eagles Lodge 2708.

He earned four battle stars and a Combat Infantryman Badge for his military service.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to a charity of the donor's choice.
