Hazel Mattingly

[January 03, 2009]  ATLANTA -- Hazel I. Mattingly, 82, of Atlanta, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at 7 a.m. at LeRoy Manor in LeRoy.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, following a rosary service at 3:45.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Mattingly will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Atlanta, with the Rev. Jeffrey G. Laible officiating.

Burial will be in McLean Cemetery.

Mrs. Mattingly had been employed at the Palace Cafe in Atlanta and made pies for the Grill Cafe in Atlanta. She later worked at Landauer's in Lincoln for 19 years, until the store closed.

She was born April 22, 1926, in Bloomington, to Joseph J. and Cleantha Isabelle Roberts Miller. She married Robert Irvin Mattingly on Aug. 14, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington. He died July 13, 1998.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (and Loren) Bryant Necessary of McLean; one grandson, Robert P. "Rob" Bryant of McLean; one sister, Erma Decker of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Dale Miller, Russell Dean Miller and Byrl Miller; and one sister, Minnie Prather.

Funeral Director

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Atlanta and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 341 and Atlanta Woman's Club.

She enjoyed her bridge club, puzzles and several card games. She enjoyed cooking and baking, along with being around her family and many friends.

She graduated from Bloomington public schools in January 1941.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Alzheimer's Association or OSF Hospice.
