James Standley

[January 29, 2009]  James A. Standley, 74, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at 8:42 a.m. in the emergency room at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home, with Ron Otto officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Lincoln Legion Post 263.

Mr. Standley retired after 38 years with General Telephone Co.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Jacksonville to Russell and Irene Rudisill Standley. He married Barbara Bunner on July 15, 1960, in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on March 13, 1997.

He is survived by two sons, Steven Standley of Peoria and Kevin (and Lisa) Standley of Petersburg; one daughter, Dawn (and Dave) DeFrates, of Springfield; one brother, Edward (and Betty) Standley of Bridgeport; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, Joshua, Dalton, Luke, Allison and Phillip; and four great-grandchildren.

One sister, Melba Standley Day, preceded him in death.

He was a member of IBEW Local 51 and the Civil Air Patrol.

Jim loved fishing, especially with his grandchildren, and treasured the memories of his trips to Canada with his buddies.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
