ATLANTA -- James Ransdell Applegate,
60, of Atlanta, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the Mayo Clinic, St.
Marys Hospital, in Rochester, Minn. |
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the
Atlanta United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rob
Roy officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 8
p.m. Friday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in
Atlanta and at the church on Saturday from 12:30
p.m. until the service time.
Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery with military
rites.
He served in the U.S. Navy and retired as a
lieutenant commander after 20 years in the Seabees.
He then worked for the state of California as a
facilities planner for the Santa Anna School
District. He was last employed by the state of
Illinois on the Capital Development Board.
He was born Dec. 12, 1948, in Bloomington to
Robert Kelley and Helen Virginia Ransdell Applegate.
He married Sharon Prather on July 4, 1989.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Kelly
Mathison (and Jessica) Applegate of Grants Pass,
Ore., and Kristopher James Applegate of
Pflugerville, Texas; one daughter, Michele Dyan (and
Christopher) Williams of Woodbridge, Va.; and one
sister, Mary (and Eric) Hill of Atlanta.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of the Atlanta United Methodist
Church, Atlanta American Legion Post 341,
Railsplitter Antique Car Club and the Society of
American Military Engineers.
He was currently serving on the board of the
Atlanta Public Library. |
He was an Eagle Scout, graduated from Atlanta High
School, earned a bachelor's degree in architecture
from the University of Illinois and a master's in
city planning from Texas A&M.
Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of
America, Atlanta United Methodist Church or Atlanta
Public Library.
