Oasis notes For the week of July 23-29 [July 22, 2009]  Healthy Food class Join us at The Oasis on Thursday, July 23, beginning at 10 a.m. for the Healthy Food class. Rebecca Van-Nydeggen will present information on various healthy food products and how you might care for someone who has special dietary needs. The class is interactive as you learn dietary needs, make dishes and taste the results. St. Clara's to sponsor bingo St. Clara's Manor will sponsor the Thursday, July 23, bingo games that begin at 1 p.m. at The Oasis.

The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Free blood pressure checks

The Oasis offers FREE checking of blood pressure every Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Atlanta bingo

Oasis seniors will travel to the Atlanta Community House on Friday, July 24, for traveling bingo, beginning at 1 p.m.

The Self Help and Resource Exchange program distribution time is Friday, July 24, between 4 and 5:30 p.m. at The Oasis. This is an outreach sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Peoria. For more details, you may contact the senior center at 732-6132.

Bunco

Bunco games at the senior center will be on Monday, July 27, beginning at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available, sponsored by Marilyn Armbrust of Regions Bank.

Tuesday's lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for July 28 features grilled cheese, tomato soup, grilled summer vegetable and dessert. The suggested donation is $3.75, or if you stay to play cards, the cost is $3.25. The reservation deadline is noon Monday, July 27.

Breakfast bingo

Breakfast bingo will be on Thursday, July 30, at The Oasis. Breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. and bingo will begin after breakfast. Doors open at 8:30. The reservation deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 28.

Card winners

The weekday pinochle winners were Doris Steffens and Roy Sebastian. The weekend pinochle winners were Ruth Aper and Eileen Kohl. The five-in-one winner was Betty Burger.

Card party winners

At the summer card party, bridge winners were Winnie Trapp, Evelyn Fulkerson and Marge Leonard. Rummy winners were Roy Sebastian, Pat Sebastian and Betty Burger. Pinochle winners were Mary Ann Hilst, 6,660; Helen Opperman, 6,140; and Pauline Boward, 6,060.
