Warren 'W.C.' Platt

Warren C. "W.C." Platt, 85, of Lincoln,
died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at 4:01 p.m. in the emergency room at
Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home, with the Rev. David Comstock officiating. |
His graveside service, with military rites, will be
at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery,
Springfield. Mr. Platt was a retired commercial
electrician.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He
served with the 88th Infantry Division Blue Devils.
He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in DeWitt, Mich., to
Ralph and Grace Watkins Platt. He married Fern L.
Spencer on Sept. 9, 1950, in Berkley, Mich. She
preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2002.
He is survived by one son, Warren A.R. (and
Shirley) Platt of Lexington; one daughter, Denice D.
Hildebrandt of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Eric
(and Cathy) Platt of Bloomington, Sarah (and Rick)
Puls of New Holland, Matthew (and Tara) Comstock of
Lincoln, Amanda (and Joe) Platt of Shirley and
Adrienne (and Russ) Hildebrandt of Lincoln; nine
great-grandchildren, Emily, Eric, Scott, Bradley and
Ashley Platt, Nathan and Jason Puls, and Ryan and
Owen Comstock.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers,
Richard and Robert Platt. |
He was of Christian faith.
For his military service he was awarded the
Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, two Bronze
Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and clasp, and the EAME
Ribbon after serving in Europe and Italy.
Memorials may be made to the Homeless Veterans
