Crude oil rose 76 cents to $70.99 a barrel in premarket trading on
the New York Mercantile Exchange. Financial stocks are also in focus Friday after UBS AG said it expects to raise $3.5 billion and forecast a loss for the second quarter. Government bond prices slipped in early trading. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, edged up to 3.58 percent from 3.54 percent late Thursday. The dollar fell against other major currencies. Gold prices rose. Overseas, Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 0.8 percent. In midday trading, Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.4 percent, Germany's DAX index rose 0.4 percent, and France's CAC-40 rose 0.1 percent.
