[March 26, 2009] (AP) Several storm systems were forecast to produce unsettling weather across the nation on Thursday.

In the East, numerous scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms were expected over the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

In the West, the northern Rockies and the Great Basin were expected to be blanketed with mixed precipitation. Moisture from the Pacific was to combine with cold, northeastern winds of up to 30 mph to produce ample amounts of snowfall. Snow totals of up to 6 inches were expected across the lower elevations, while mountain ranges were to see accumulations of up to 15 inches. Strong winds were expected to reduce visibilities and create periods of blowing and drifting snow.

In the North, snow showers were to persist across the flood-ravaged northern Plains and the Upper Mississippi Valley.

Winter storm warnings and watched were posted across portions of Colorado, northern New Mexico, southwest Kansas, northwest Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 5 degrees at Clayton Lakes, Maine, to a high of 91 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
