Seymour John Jones, 87, of Lincoln, died
Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 8:50 a.m. at The Christian Village
Nursing Home.
No visitation is scheduled. |
A private funeral service is planned for Saturday at
Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln with Pastor Robert
Henderson officiating. Masonic rites will be
conducted. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.
Military rites will be conducted by American Legion
Post 263.
Mr. Jones was an electrician. He retired in 1985
from employment with the state of Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was born March 7, 1922, to James and Margaret
Beaver Jones. He married Gloria Cecelia Powers on
Dec. 11, 1943. She survives.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, of
Lincoln; three sons, Tom Jones, Donny Jones and Rick
(and Shannon) Jones, all of Lincoln; two brothers,
Lawrence Jones and Arthur Jones, both of Lincoln;
five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, U.S. Marine
Corps Cpl. David Lee Jones, who was killed in action
Nov. 8, 1967; and two brothers, Edgar Jones and
Melvin Jones.
He was a member of IBEW Local 193 in Springfield,
Lincoln Masonic Lodge 210, Scottish Rite, Ansar
Shrine, a member and past president of the Logan
County Shrine Club, a lifetime member and past
governor of Moose Lodge 1441, a member and honor
guard member of American Legion Post 263, and a
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1756 and
past 10th District commander. |
He graduated from Lincoln High School.
He loved to hunt and fish. He was an avid fan of
the Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for
Crippled Children.
