3 killed as SUV peppered with bullets in St. Louis

[May 09, 2009]  ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Three men who had just left a downtown St. Louis nightclub were killed in a barrage of bullets by gunmen in another vehicle.

Police say it appears the shooters were targeting the men in the SUV and at least 14 shots were fired. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The apparent ambush happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. Friday when the victims stopped at a stoplight after having left the club.

Another car pulled alongside theirs, and at least two people opened fire on the SUV.

The victims were the 27-year-old driver and his passengers: a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old man.
