___
Hit-and-run on May 26 at 12:39 p.m.; Keokuk Street, 500 feet
east of Union Street
--Unknown suspect driving a white box truck
--David C. Zandstra, male, 59, of DeMotte, Ind.; 2008 Peterbilt
Motors truck
Zandstra said he was transporting an oversized load and had two
lead flag vehicles, all heading westbound on the Keokuk Street
curve. The two lead vehicles were flagging oncoming vehicles over to
allow safe passage of the oversized load, which was a base support
for a wind turbine. The lead vehicles flagged over the white box
truck (no other description given). According to Zandstra and
drivers of both the lead flag vehicles, the box truck moved to the
inside lane once the lead vehicles had passed. As the box truck was
entering the curve, Zandstra pulled back into the inside lane. The
driver’s side corner of the box truck struck the side of the wind
turbine support, causing a scratch that extended approximately 15-20
feet, beginning near the midpoint of the load. The damage was
approximately 8 to 9 feet off the ground. The unknown suspect
driving the white box truck failed to stop after striking the load.
___ The public is reminded that anyone is
presumed innocent until charges are proven in a court of law.
