Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation awards scholarships

[May 28, 2009]  The Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation has awarded scholarships to seven local students who are preparing for health care careers.  

Whitney Lima was awarded $2,000 to continue her studies in human nutrition and dietetics at Bradley University. She is a 2006 graduate of Illini Central High School in Mason City and the daughter of Paula and Lee Cutright of Mason City. This is her second scholarship award from ALHF. 

Mary Jane Letterle was awarded $2,000 to attend Lewis University in the fall, where she will study diagnostic sonography. She will graduate from Mount Pulaski High School this year. She is the daughter of Lynda Letterle of Mount Pulaski and the late David Letterle.

Allison Durchholz was awarded $1,500 to continue her studies at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. A 2007 graduate of Mount Pulaski High School, she has won two previous scholarship awards from ALHF. Her parents are Dan and Teresa Durchholz of Elkhart

Jillyn Cross will continue her studies in psychology to then pursue a career as an occupational therapist with a $1,000 ALHF scholarship. A 2008 graduate of Hartsburg-Emden High School, she attends Illinois Wesleyan University, and her parents are John and Jayne Cross of Emden.

Thaddeus Juilfs, a current senior at Lincoln Community High School, will receive $500 for pre-medicine studies at University of Missouri-Columbia. His parents are Mark and Becky Juilfs of Lincoln.

Pre-medicine student Donieka Burris received $500 to continue her biochemistry and molecular biology studies at Illinois State University. She is a 2008 graduate of Illini Central, and her parents are Mike and Meri Burris of Mason City. This is her second scholarship award from ALHF. 

Samara Shane was awarded a $500 scholarship to attend Illinois Wesleyan University, where she intends to study nursing. She will graduate from Lincoln Community High School this year. Her parents are Doug and Michele Shane of Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a community-based general hospital serving the people of Logan and eastern Mason County. The Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation was formed in 1996 to support the hospital and local health care needs. Contributions to the scholarship fund are welcome at any time.
