Quinn announced the appointments on Saturday. According to the
governor's office, the panel was formed "for dealing with the
current economic downturn while also preparing plans to ensure the
long-term health and prosperity of Illinois' economy." The
commission has two co-chairmen, Evanston investment banker Alexander
Rorke and the mayor of Quincy, John Spring. Commission members are
to provide Quinn with advice and information on the state economy in
a report due on or before March 31, 2010.
Quinn's office says the members come from business, academic,
government and nonprofit backgrounds. The commission's first meeting
is Monday in Springfield.
