[November 20, 2009]  The Logan County Board marked a couple of milestones and made several recognitions during their adjourned session Tuesday evening. One recognition celebrated an agency anniversary, another a former official's service, and service appointments were made to three agencies.

Commendation for the Logan County Paramedic Association

The Logan County Board recognized the Logan County Paramedic Association as they approach 10 years of service to the community. Steve Siltman, director of the LCPA, accepted the certificate of appreciation on behalf of the agency from law enforcement chairman Rick Aylesworth.

Aylesworth read a resolution of commendation recognizing the LCPA for professionalism, dedication and hard work in providing emergency medical service throughout Logan County.

Highlights of the strengths that the agency provides:

  • Prompt medical response to residents and visitors

  • Response to accidents on Interstate 55

  • Standby support for structure fires and football games

  • Answers over 4,500 calls per year

All the paramedics regularly keep up with new information and trainings and are certified in advanced life support, which allows administration of medications, starting IVs and starting advanced airways

In his comments Siltman recalled that it was an uncertain start when the endeavor began 10 years ago. He credited the LCPA board, particularly Dr. Blaum, Warren Peters, Shirley Edwards, Bob Thomas and the remainder of that board, for getting the not-for-profit going. He recalled that board members personally went out on a limb in establishing the agency. Some signed for large loans.

He thanked the Logan County Board for all their continued support and past board members Dick Logan and David Hepler, who were present on Tuesday, for their support in starting the LCPA.

Siltman was most thankful for his wife, Ann, and her devotion to pray for LCPA, especially in its first year. "In the early stages, I think she spent a lot of time on her knees," he said.

Former circuit clerk awarded

Board chairman Terry Carlton presented a plaque recognizing Carla Bender, former circuit clerk, for her 17 years of dedicated, faithful service to Logan County.

Bender resigned her position in Logan County to accept an opportunity to serve at the state level as clerk for the 4th District Court of Appeals beginning on Oct. 1.

Bender expressed her thanks for the board members and all the people who continue to work with "our" -- she stopped and corrected herself -- "the" office. "I keep doing that," she said. Everyone chuckled. She continued and said it was a pleasure serving everyone for all those years.

Appointments

Other matters of recognition that came before the board this month included a number of appointments. The board approved all of the following appointments unanimously:

To the Logan County Board of Health:

  • Robert "Bob" Cox, M.P.H.

  • Roger Bock

To the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County:

  • Peggy Lee

  • Lucille Pech

  • Gillette Ransom

  • Thressia Usherwood

To Central Illinois Economic Development:
