Lincoln gave up a six-point lead with three minutes to go in the
first half to go into halftime tied 32-32. The first possession of
the second half, it continued to unravel as Marius Sumrell was
called for a travel. In the end Lake Land won 74-49. "There is
really not much to say other than we had to commit at least 30 or
more turnovers and at least gave up 25 offense boards," said Lincoln
coach Kirk Whiteman.
"While Lake Land had great size and athletes, it was our
inability to value the basketball and play hard. It really is
embarrassing that we didn't play hard, and that is more upsetting
than a loss.
"One play could sum up the entire half: Lincoln turns the ball
over on offense, and as the Lake Land guard shoots a layup with two
Lincoln defenders on him, he misses, but only to have four other
Lake Land players standing there to get the offensive put-back and
score. There wasn't another Lincoln player in sight."
Lincoln is now 6-2 and Lake Land 2-3 for the season.
Lincoln College will play Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the
Southeastern (Iowa) Classic in Burlington, Iowa.
