Arthur 'Ed' Kindred

ATLANTA
-- Arthur Edward "Ed" Kindred, 84, of Atlanta, died Thursday, Oct.
8, 2009, at 6:12 a.m. at his home. |
His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at
Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Maurice
Stribling and the Rev. Dennis Smith officiating.
Visitation will be during the hour prior to the
service. Burial will be in Atlanta Cemetery with
military rites.
Mr. Kindred retired from the city of Atlanta in
1987.
During World War II he served as a boatswain’s
mate second class in the U.S. Navy. He operated
troop landing tanks, jeep lighter ships and was also
a tug pilot while serving in the Asiatic-Pacific
Theater war zone.
He was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Kenney to Gilbert
and Sally Cates Kindred. He married Juanita Menzel
on Feb. 2, 1946, in Atlanta.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Betsy
(and Eric) Shifflet of Waynesville; and two
granddaughters, Erica Shifflet (and Mike Roehm) of
Bloomington and Andrea Shifflet (and Jim Rhoades) of
Galesburg.
One brother and two sisters preceded him in
death.
He was a member of Atlanta Christian Church,
American Legion Post 341 and Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 1756. |
He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1943.
He most enjoyed watching his granddaughters
participate in athletics and never missed a game.
Memorials may be made to Atlanta Public Library
or Atlanta Rescue Squad.
