[October 14, 2009]  On Tuesday the Lincoln College volleyball team was back in action for a home match against John Wood Community College. Lincoln (19-10) breezed by John Wood in the first two sets, winning by scores of 25-10 and 25-9. In set three the Trailblazers put up more of a fight but still fell to the Lady Lynx 25-23.

The win evened Lincoln College's record in the MWAC at 3-3.

LC stats:

  • Melanie Herbeck -- 18 set assists, 2 blocks

  • Gretchen Rieger -- 6 kills, 6 digs, 21 points

  • Natalia Florczyk -- 7 kills, 4 digs

  • Abbie Hare -- 2 kills, 4 blocks

  • Lara Dawson -- 7 kills, 6 blocks

  • Megan Schaefer -- 10 points, 2 digs

  • Samantha Murphy -- 6 set assists, 4 points

Comments from LC coach Mark Tippett: "We played a very steady match from start to finish. Our front-row players were able to exploit their height advantage effectively, and our servers were successful at keeping their offense off-balance. In set three we experimented with a different lineup and things went smoothly most of the way, but John Wood continued to compete and made things interesting at the end. I was pleased that we were able to hold on for the win and take the match in three sets."

LC hits the road for their last series of away games this season. On Thursday they head to Decatur to take on the Millikin JV team and will try to avenge their five-set loss to MU in September. This will be followed by a two-day trip to play in the St. Louis area.
