John Larson

[October 26, 2009]  ATLANTA -- John Elmer Larson, 91, of Atlanta, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at 12:28 p.m. at the home of his daughter in rural Atlanta.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Eminence Christian Church, with L.C. Sutton officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta and from 9 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Larson farmed in Logan County. He was also employed in quality control at PPG.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was deployed to Germany and Japan.

He was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Chicago, a son of Oscar and Anna Larson. He married Marjorie Elizabeth Griffith on June 27, 1941. She preceded him in death on April 17, 2000.

He is survived by his children, Marjorie Ann (and Don) Sapp of Atlanta, John Charles (and Linda) Larson of Lombard, David James Larson of Lincoln, Thomas Robert (and Betty L.) Larson of Lincoln and Mary Elizabeth Virginia (and Randy) Christy of Villa Park; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Troy Larson; one brother, Robert Larson; and one sister, Marian Logan.

He attended Eminence Christian Church.

He graduated from Senn High School in Chicago.
