Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran
Church in Emden. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at
the church, with the Rev. Donald Pieper and the Rev. David
Russell officiating. Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery,
Hartsburg

Mrs. Pieper taught school in Dubuque County,
Iowa; Gavin School District, Fox Lake; and Hartem
Elementary School for 20 years. She started the
preschool at St. Peter Lutheran and taught 10 years
at the preschool before she retired.
She was born May 6, 1931, at Calamus, Iowa, to
William and Helen B. Bousselot Grau. She married the
Rev. Frank Pieper on June 7, 1952, at Faith Lutheran
Church in Calamus, Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, of Emden; three
sons, Stephan (and Leeann) Pieper of St. Charles,
Frank R. (and Sherry) Pieper of Champaign and the
Rev. Donald (and Claudia) Pieper of Port Hadlock,
Wash.; two daughters, Cheryl Wink of Sheboygan,
Wis., and Elizabeth Pieper of Clearwater, Fla.; six
sisters, Darlene Hotopp of Des Moines, Iowa, Mayme
Ann Smith of Plano, Texas, Janice Alden of Plano,
Texas, Dianna Eggers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Donna
Coon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Laura Grau of
Garland, Texas; six grandchildren; three
stepgrandchildren; and five
step-great-grandchildren.

One brother, Lowell, and two sisters preceded her
in death.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and
the Cross and Crown Circle.
She received a two-year elementary teaching
degree at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and
received her bachelor's degree in education from
Northern Illinois University.
