[September 08, 2009]  Every year, the alumni relations office at Lincoln College organizes special excursions to popular shopping and sightseeing destinations around the region. Each outing is limited to 44 guests. Outings to Amish country, the Spoon River Drive and Chicago are planned for this fall.

HardwareSept. 26 -- Explore Amish country

Enjoy a day exploring Illinois' famed Amish country and outlet shopping. The first stop will be at Flesor's Candy Kitchen. Featured on the "CBS Evening News," this small-town mom and pop shop is renowned for its handmade candies and an old-fashioned soda fountain. Order yourself a beverage at the soda fountain, then watch a candy making demo while enjoying tasty samples. After that, head to the Tuscola Tanger Outlet Mall, where you'll receive a signature shopping tote and coupon booklet. At the Amish Red Barn you'll enjoy a homemade Amish buffet lunch and you can shop for Amish cheeses, handicrafts and antiques. Later, journey to Arthur, the heart of Illinois' Amish country, where you'll visit the Beachy's Bulk Foods Store. Here you'll find a full line of spices, flours, nuts, dried fruits and candies along with mouth-watering pastries. The last stop of the day will be to the famous Great Pumpkin Patch, where you can pick your own pumpkins from the patch or select from a wide variety of pre-picked pumpkins, squash and gourds. Price: $38*; includes transportation on luxury motor coach, buffet lunch, snacks, door prizes and admission to the Great Pumpkin Patch. (*Price for children ages 5-12: $33.50; children 4 and under: $27, or free if they sit on your lap on the bus).
