Roger Oltmanns

[September 14, 2009]  MIDDLETOWN -- Roger W. Oltmanns, 89, of Middletown, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at 7:20 a.m. at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. His funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Olander officiating.

Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery with military rites.

Mr. Oltmanns was a farmer and also worked as a security officer for the secretary of state for 17 years.

He was a captain in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II.

He was born April 1, 1920, in Lincoln to Herman and Martha Haferkamp Oltmanns. He married Harriet C. Parks on Sept. 28, 1945, in Warrington, England.

He is survived by two sons, Roger Jr. (and Martha) Oltmanns of South Bend, Ind., and Jerry (and Dawn) Oltmanns of Sherman; one daughter, Karol (and Robert) Puglisi of East Hampton, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Large of Tucson, Ariz., and Mildred Williamson of Sherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Walter and Clifford Oltmanns.

Funeral Director

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln and American Legion Post 616.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice or Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
