[April 20, 2010]  RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) -- Firefighters in a Vermont city said a hotel had to be evacuated in the middle of the night after a guest plugged a European DVD player into an American electrical outlet.

Firefighters said the incompatible plug created a lot of smoke at the Comfort Inn and fire alarms were triggered early Tuesday throughout the 104-room hotel.

Emergency workers didn't find a fire, but they did find a burned out television and DVD player.

Deputy Fire Chief Francis Cioffi told the Rutland Herald the difference between the appliances flash-fried the electronics in the room but didn't affect the entire hotel.
