[April 07, 2010]  McLEAN -- Charles L. Yates, 79, of McLean, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 3:35 p.m. at his home.

His funeral will be at noon Saturday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with Chuck Brannock officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time.

Burial will be in Roaches Chapel Cemetery, rural McLean.

Mr. Yates owned C.L. Yates Excavating and farmed in rural Atlanta.

He was born May 11, 1930, in Camden. His parents were Charles J. and Violet Logsdon Yates. He married Irma Parn on June 18, 1949.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Kenneth (and Bobbie Sue) Yates of Atlanta; two daughters, Charlene (and Capt. Larry) Cripps of Norfolk, Va., and Debra (and Scott) Wilcox of McLean; one brother, Gerald (and Dorothy) Yates of Timewell; a sister-in-law, Jan Yates of Quincy; six grandchildren, Angelea (and Brian) Karr, Josh Baxter, Heather (and Thomas) Miller, Theron Yates, Amanda (and Ryan) Oehler and Pfc. Drew Wilcox; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Harlan Yates.

He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for over 60 years.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
