Air temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s today and Wednesday with
dew points in the middle 70s will create heat index values from 105
to 110 this afternoon and from 100 to 105 Wednesday afternoon. Overnight temperatures should drop into the lower 70s,
but with
dew points remaining high, heat index values both nights are expected
to remain in the middle 70s. Heat exhaustion or heatstroke is possible for people spending any
time outdoors, especially if they are hard at work or play. The heat
is especially dangerous for children, the elderly or those with
medical conditions. Leaving a child or pet in an enclosed vehicle even for a short time
can be deadly. Precautionary, preparedness actions:
An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and
check up on relatives and neighbors.
