Carloads of concrete railroad ties wait their turn to replace the old wooden ones just north of the Elkhart crossing. The work is being done on the rail line to allow for high-speed trains to begin their faster journey between Chicago and St. Louis in 2014.

Railroad crossing closures come to Logan County

Train crossings along the Chicago-St. Louis Amtrak route are being closed temporarily for track improvements for the coming high-speed rail system. Work is under way around Elkhart.
