MOUNT PULASKI -- Edward Leigh Allspach,
82, of Mount Pulaski, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at 4:36 a.m. at
Vonderlieth Living Center.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Mount Pulaski Christian
Church Family Life Center.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Pulaski
Christian Church. |

Burial will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, Mount
Pulaski. Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Mount Pulaski is handling arrangements.
He was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Mount Pulaski to
Elmer Edward and Helen Eola Birks Allspach. He
married Shirley Jean Carter on Feb. 26, 1948.
He is survived by his wife; one son, George (and
Karen) Allspach of Mount Pulaski; four daughters,
Kathryn (and Scott) Steinfort of Miramar, Fla.,
Linda (and Dennis) Sheehan of Lincoln, Jerilee (and
Brad) Gibbs of Crawford, Colo., and Jo Ellen (and
Mark) Gilbert of Paris, Ill.; one brother, Donald
(and Shirley) Allspach of Mount Pulaski; 13
grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, David Edward
Allspach, and one brother, John Birks Allspach.
He was a member and president of the Lake Fork
Grade School Board of Education and the Mount
Pulaski Grade School Board of Education. He was a
member of the Logan County Soil and Water
Conservation District for 35 years, served as
chairman of the board and received the Illinois Soil
and Water Conservation Districts' Governor's Award
for the Conservation Farm Family of the Year in
1996. He was commissioner of the Union Drainage
District, chairman of the Logan County Cemetery
District board, served on the Steenbergen Cemetery
board of directors and was on the board of directors
of the Menard Electric Co-op. |
He was a member of the Prairie State Model T Car
Club.
Ed was a loving husband and dedicated father of
six children. He had a passion for farming and
stewardship of the land. He was active in many
service and leadership roles in the community. In
later years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife,
Shirley, and was an avid antique car enthusiast.
This generous man will be greatly missed by family
and friends.
Memorials may be made to Vonderlieth Living
Center or St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
