Adopt A Family, Warm for the Weather, Home for the
Holidays (eviction prevention and utility shutoff prevention),
emergency food pantry and H20 Help to Others (water shutoff
prevention andreconnection).
Three hundred calls requesting assistance were received in the two weeks
leading up to Thanksgiving, and the phone never stops ringing at the
The Salvation Army Keest Center.
"This is why we ring the bells each year," said Rebecca Van Nydeggen,
local director for The Salvation Army of Logan County. "People need
help throughout the year, and Christmas is no exception!"
With many
families and wage earners struggling with hours cutbacks, layoffs,
longer term
unemployment and exhausted unemployment benefits, more calls are
received from new clients each month than the month before.
As of Dec. 23, The Salvation Army has reached 31.8 percent of the
annual Red Kettle campaign goal of $60,000.
Kettles will be
available for donation today until 4 p.m. at Lincoln Walmart,
Kroger's Lincoln store and Lincoln IGA. In addition, counter kettles
(miniatures) will be available at Logan County Bank (both branches:
downtown and on Woodlawn Road), as well as Bryant's Arcade Restaurant
on the courthouse square and at Stacy's Family
Pharmacy on Woodlawn.
The Online Red Kettle remains open as well,
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Donations made by check may be mailed to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box
52, Lincoln, IL 62656; or dropped into any kettle today.
2010 Red Kettle campaign funds will support year-round assistance
programs for 2011.
