Signal Hill Fire Chief Greg Render tells the Belleville News-Democrat that the plane was bound for St. Louis Downtown-Parks airport in Cahokia.
Nobody on the ground was injured, and no one was in the house at the time of the crash. As many as 75 firefighters have responded to the resulting fire.
Render tells KMOV-TV that the plane crashed about 6:40 p.m. in the Aero Estates Court subdivision. Homes there have hangars and private runways.
Render won't say where the flight originated.
Belleville is about 20 miles southeast of St. Louis.
