Dean Maaks

[January 11, 2010]  LINCOLN -- Dean Franklin Maaks, 79, of Lincoln, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at 8:45 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, with the Rev. David Ramirez and the Rev. Mark Thompson co-officiating.

Burial will be in Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland.

Mr. Maaks was a retired farmer and had been a substitute rural mail carrier in New Holland from 1957 to 1973.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Korea.

He was born Aug. 12, 1930, in Lincoln to Frank Carl Frederick and Anna Margaret Johanna Roetker Maaks. He married Helen Louise Schmidt on Aug. 24, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. They were married for 51 years and she survives in Lincoln.

He is also survived by one son, Derald (and April) Maaks of Lincoln; three daughters, Darla (and Larry) Stanfield of Lincoln, Donita (and Terry) Biggs of Lincoln and Deanna (and Joel) Jacobs of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Lauren and Lance Stanfield, Devin and David Biggs, and Derek and Jordan Jacobs; one brother, Donald (and Margaret) Maaks of Bloomington; and one sister, Diane (and Neil) Steffens of Elgin.

Funeral Director

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln.

He graduated from New Holland Grade School and High School.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church of Lincoln or St. Clara's Manor.
