Eva Laurine Albert Spalding was born Jan. 8, 1921,
in Maroa. She was the daughter of a farmer, George
Albert and Zelpha DuBois "MiMi" Albert. Eva
married Robert Merrill Rich on Aug. 22, 1945, at
Hanson Place Methodist Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. He was
a banker at National City Bank in New York City,
Millikin National Bank in Decatur and Mount Zion
State Bank in Mount Zion. He preceded her in death
on Oct. 6, 1979.
She later married M.D. "Bill" Ream, an electrical
engineer for the Wabash Railroad, on Jan. 9, 1982,
in Danville. They later lived at Vonderlieth Living
Center in Mount Pulaski. He preceded her in death on
Dec. 6, 1992.
She married Selma W. Spalding on Dec. 11, 1996.
They lived until her death at Vonderlieth Living
Center, where he currently resides.
She is also survived by her son, Robert M. Rich
Jr. and his wife, Rebecca Lee Root Rich, of Winter
Park, Fla.; her grandson, J. Brandon Rich of Cardiff
by the Sea, Calif.; her granddaughter, Brittany Lynn
Rich Clay and husband Charles Lloyd Clay Jr. of
Atlanta, Ga.; and her great-granddaughter, Emory
Merrill Clay of Atlanta, Ga.; two nephews, Daniel
Albert Hayes of Detroit, Mich., and Dr. James M.
Rich of Asheboro, N.C.; two nieces, Hazel Rich Hobbs
of New Canaan, Conn., and Candy Rich Di Sabitino of
Wilmington, Del.; and many great-nieces and
great-nephews and cousins throughout the U.S.
She was also preceded in death by her sister,
Helen Marie Hayes of Roseville, Mich. |
Eva graduated from Maroa High School and Illinois
Commercial College in Champaign.
She began her career at Millikin National Bank.
She lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1944 and was a
member of the U.S. Coast Guard (SPARS) during World
War II. She worked for the Irving Trust Co. in New
York City after discharge from the SPARS. She shared
life experiences from childhood and through the war
and beyond with her best friend Eleanor Rainey
Clary, who preceded her in death.
Eva later worked for the Wabash Railroad and
retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad.
She was member of Delta Theta Tau sorority and
Mount Zion Presbyterian Church, where she was a
deacon.
