LINCOLN --
Ferne Louise Decker, 95, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at
11:58 a.m. at St. Clara's Manor.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Wallace Reifsteck
officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service time at
the funeral home.
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery. |
Mrs. Decker and her husband both worked at Armour
Creameries in Lincoln, where they met. She worked at
many jobs through the years as they raised their
family. She was a waitress at the old Maple Club and
other restaurants in Lincoln. She worked at Lincoln
Garment Factory for a few years. Before her
retirement, she and her husband managed the Decker's
Family Shoe Store in downtown Lincoln for their son
Jim. She was born March 30, 1915, in Chestnut. Her
parents were Benjamin and Blanche Walters Baker. She
married Elva Decker on Nov. 4, 1933, in Lincoln. He
preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1994.
She is survived by three sons, James R. (and
Doris) Decker of Lincoln, Larry L. (and Mary) Decker
of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Danny D. (Joan) Decker of
Dubuque, Iowa; one daughter, Betty J. DeJarnette of
Lincoln; one sister, Marian Baker Field of Fort
Myers, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Karen DeJarnette of
Syracuse, N.Y., Shari (and Eric) Ulvestad of
Lincoln, Gregory (and Cindy) DeJarnette of Emden,
Lynn (and Steven) Mershon of Antioch, Valerie Decker
of Chicago, Matthew Decker of Minneapolis, Minn.,
Tim Decker of Iowa City, Iowa, Joel (and Kristy)
Decker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sarah (and Ryan) Hess
of Dubuque, Iowa, and Jordan Decker of Dubuque,
Iowa; and nine great-grandchildren, Andrew and Caleb
DeJarnette, Lucas and Wyatt Lvestad, Mia and Harper
Decker, Tyler Hess, and David and Kevin (and
Katherine) Mershon. |
She was also preceded in death by two brothers,
Harold and Delmont Baker, and a son-in-law, Kermit
DeJarnette.
She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.
She is well remembered by her many customers over
the years.
She attended Chestnut Grade School and graduated
from Decatur High School.
Memorials may be made to St. Clara's Manor or a
charity of the donor's choice.
