[April 01, 2010]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Kimberly Dozier, who was seriously hurt in 2006 by a car bomb in Iraq while working for CBS News, is leaving the network for a job at The Associated Press.

Dozier will be the AP's intelligence reporter based in Washington, working with colleagues throughout the world on stories focusing on security threats to the United States and its allies, said Ron Fournier, the news agency's Washington bureau chief.

While working on a story about the Iraq War on May 29, 2006, a Baghdad car bomb badly hurt her and killed two CBS News colleagues and a U.S. Army captain.

She wrote about the blast and her recovery in the 2008 book, "Breathing the Fire." She has covered the White House, Pentagon and national security for CBS since her return.

In a memo to his staff, CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus said Dozier's commitment and courage is legendary.

"Her reporting, both before and after her almost fatal injuries from an Iraqi bomb attack and a painful, arduous recovery, is a testament to the true power and purpose of the press," McManus wrote.
