To the editor: The mayor and Lincoln City Council have proclaimed
the fourth Saturday in October to be "Harvest Day" in Lincoln in
honor of the Harvest of Talents for World Hunger mission and the way
the community comes together for hunger relief around the world.
Your enduring support, cooperation and participation helps make each
Harvest a success by any measure, and the 2010 Harvest certainly was
a blessing.
On behalf of those who receive food funded by Harvest of Talents
for World Hunger -- THANK YOU!
Like finding an Easter egg after the hunt, a donation sent
directly to International Disaster Emergency Service before Harvest
Day brought the total amount of Lincoln's 2010 Harvest to
$92,139.67!
Hunger continues to be a harsh reality for a billion people all
over the world, but through the Harvest ministry, you came together
to help in a very real and direct way. You generously shared a
measure of your talents, time and resources with the 27th Harvest.
One hundred percent of the funds raised will be distributed by
IDES through dedicated and accountable missionaries, building
bridges of hope around the world -- providing rice, beans, potatoes,
grain and other foods for victims of hunger and malnutrition,
together with the Gospel for nourishing their souls. (IDES,
www.ides.org, is a Charity
Navigator four-star charity and an official "Partners in Trust" with
GuideStar.)
Whether you saved coins in an IDES fish bank; attended, hosted or
helped with the ladies' Spring for Tea or little girls' Princess
Tea; used special-event license plates on your vehicle, played in
the golf outing; prayed through the prayer calendar; listened to or
participated in the musical concerts; made, baked, prepared
something for Harvest; served or greeted someone with a smile at a
Harvest event; helped set up or take down during Harvest Week; came
and purchased a snack or handcrafted item on Harvest Day; donated
potatoes to the food pantry; sponsored a Harvest ad; assisted behind
the scenes in any way; gave a donation; recycled aluminum; worshiped
on Celebration Sunday; promoted the Harvest in some way; shared your
unique talent; or are coming to the Holiday Homes on Tour (Dec. 5)
and/or making/buying holiday cookies for the Christmas Cookie Walk
(Dec. 11) -- THANK YOU for sharing!

I am confident that God knows how you helped. He is the source of
your blessings and will multiply your offerings. "From the fullness
of his grace we have all received one blessing after another." --
John 1:15 NIV. And so we are blessed to be a blessing!
While the Harvest Ministry Team works hard throughout the year to
plan and coordinate Harvest events, the team is keenly aware that
this ministry is not just about the money that is raised through all
the fun activities that reflect your talents. The money buys
much-needed food for starving people, but ministry fosters our
spirit -- and this is precious to each of us, in the relationships
that are built and strengthened along the way.
You were all great to work with and exemplary in your hearts for
the hungry. The work on earth isn't done, so as we plan for the 28th
Harvest for 2011, we welcome your good ideas and how you want to
